Wet, wet, wet...

Rained has stopped play completely today, as Diesel is out without a rug, so no riding today. Unfortunately this has put us even further behind with training for the dressage competition, now less than a fortnight away, and it looks more and more like I will not be taking part. Hopefully I will get back in the saddle tomorrow, so for now I am stuck giving my tack a good clean (I don't mind too much, I love cleaning tack - very sad I know!).

  1. Hi, So nice to find another dressage training blog. Thanks for following mine and leaving a comment - it's how I found yours. You'll probably have noticed that I'm starting a horse for the first time too, so can relate to what you're going through. A couple of responses to your earlier posts.
    1) getting over fear - I had to work through this too, and managed it by going slowly enough that issues very rarely arose. Also, for some reason playing loud music that I liked and also singing seemed to help (the later only done when alone) :) Be realistic with yourself too - it's scary to start a young horse and you've had a recent fall - why wouldn't you be nervous? Go slow and it will be fine.
    2) Showing - if you don't feel ready then don't go. It will make you really nervous if you don't feel ready, and then you'll associate showing with this negative feeling. Trust me, I did it!
Re ponies and adults doing dressage - at our recent dressage show there were lots of adults riding ponies and tey did great. I saw many more this year than in the past and I think it may be becoming more popular. Good for you for finding a good fit. I'm tall and thus have a tall horse. The main thing is finding a horse / pony that is a good fit for you.
I'm looking forward to reading more. I'll introduce you on my blog.

  2. Hello Carol and thanks for the fantastic comment! Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. I will definately be going as slowly as I need to from now on. I think the fact I am on a yard of mostly competition horses always makes me feel like I should be doing more.
I am so glad to hear that you have a lot of adult pony riders around you! I very rarely see them here. I guess that is why I get funny looks and snide remarks (Again, being on a competition yard doesn't seem to help with this!).
Thanks again for your comment and I look forward to reading more of your blog posts, and thank you as well for introdcing me on your blog.
